Mark rose through the ranks of the Fire <br />Department, first as a full-time Firefighter on July <br />1, 1978, then becoming Assistant Fire Chief/Fire <br />Marshal on January 16, 1996. Mark assumed the <br />duties of Fire Chief on June 1, 2000, after his <br />appointment by the City Council on May 15, 2000. <br />During this period of time, Mark has provided <br />exemplary leadership for the Fire Department, all <br />while experiencing unprecedented growth in the <br />number of ambulance calls. <br />Also during Chief Holmes' tenure as Fire Chief, the <br />City and the Rural Fire Association changed the <br />major terms and conditions of the agreement in <br />~.` <br />~- ~y~ ' "~ ' ~) <br />~% ;° ,, C <br />~~ ~ <br />~~~~ <br />City Receives Award For <br />Financial Reporting <br />~~' <br />~~~ <br />The City of Hastings has again been awarded the <br />Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in <br />Financial Reporting for the City's 2006 <br />Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). <br />This is the highest form of recognition in the area <br />of governmental accounting and reporting, and its <br />attainment represents a significant accomplishment <br />by the City. <br />The City of Hastings has received this award for <br />ten consecutive years. <br />2 Rivertown News (se~tember 200 -November 2000 <br />which the City provides service to the Rural Fire <br />Association, all while retaining excellent working <br />relations with its members. <br />Throughout the last 12-18 months, Chief Holmes <br />has been instrumental in leading the Department <br />towards the switch to the Dakota Communications <br />Center (DCC), the joint dispatch center which will <br />provide dispatching service to the Cities in Dakota <br />County, and also Dakota County. <br />Mark has also provided leadership on the Dakota <br />Communications Center Operations Committee, <br />assisting with a variety of tasks and functions that <br />required considerable discussion with his peers in <br />Dakota County, in anticipation of the opening of <br />the DCC in the fall, 2007. <br />An excellent leader, an excellent Fire Chief, and an <br />excellent member of the Hastings community; Fire <br />Chief Mark Holmes will be missed, and his years <br />of dedicated service to the Hastings Fire <br />Department are truly appreciated. <br />Dau,.cG M.
