HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING, MARCH 7, 1996 <br /> <br />1. Roll. Commissioners Schnirring, Simacek, Anderson, Thorsen and Coutu present. <br /> <br />2. Minutes of February 12, 1996. Mr. Schnkring moved, Mr. Thorsen seconded approval with two <br />corrections.; motion carded. <br /> <br />3. Bills. Mr. Simacek moved, Ms. Anderson seconded approval; motion carried. <br /> a. IOS - 83.49 - copier maintenance for Pioneer room. <br /> <br />4. Staff & Committee Reports. <br /> a. Fence design. The County 42 - W. Second Street reconstruction project requires fencing <br />along the north side of the street at the Hudson west parking lot and fi'om just west of 418 W. <br />Second to Pine Street. As the design of the fence should be appropriate for the historic <br />neighborhood, staff asked the HPC to select one of three designs. After discussion Ms. Coutu <br />moved, Mr. Simacek seconded the choice of style B, attached; motion carried. <br /> <br /> b. ~ 1997Grant Application. As neither staffnor commissioners were available to attend <br />the March 14 grant meeting in St. Paul, the Minnesota Historical Society will be notified that <br />Hastings will not make a presentation. <br /> <br /> c. District study. A Progress Report dated March 7 was received from Landscape Research <br />and reviewed; questions will be fonvarded by staff. <br /> <br />5. Review of building permits or design proposals. <br /> <br />No applications at this time <br /> <br />6. Unfinished business. <br /> a. Illustrated sites guide. The Chamber of Commerce (Tourism Bureau) decided to print <br />10,000 of the guides for free distribution. Mr. Schnirfing moved, Ms. Coutu seconded that the HPC <br />print 2,000 for thek own uses at the quantity price (. 14 ea.), including 600 for Dakota County, extras <br />for City Hall, the Libraries and schools, and for tours conducted by the Pioneer Room volunteers, <br />at a cost of $280; motion carded. <br /> <br />7.New business <br /> a. Post card. The Pioneer room staff proposed printing a historic photograph of the H&D <br />on the Vermillion gorge trestle as a post card. They will also have new post cards of the former <br />Court House and the Covered Bridge over Vermillion available this spring. If 3,000 were printed the <br />cost will be $355. Mr. Simacek moved, Ms. Anderson seconded approval; motion carded. <br /> <br />8. Adjournment. Mr. Simacek so moved, Mr. Schnirring seconded; motion carded. <br /> <br /> <br />
