<br />CITY OF HASTINGS <br />DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />VIII-C-3 <br /> <br />Resolution No. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE OPERATION OF SINGLE LANE <br />DIRECTIONALLY ALTERNATING TRAFFIC ON THE U.S. HIGHWAY 61 <br />MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE DURING REHABILITATION WORK IN 2008 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a rehabilitation project on the U.S. Highway 61 Bridge over the Mississippi <br />River has been scheduled by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for the summer of <br />2008, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this project is necessary to maintain and preserve the ability of the traveling <br />public to safely cross the bridge until such time that the bridge is replaced, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the project will significantly impact the capability of U.S. Highway 61 to <br />facilitate the efficient travel of motor vehicles within and through the City of Hastings, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, impact on the efficient travel of motor vehicles within and through the City of <br />Hastings has the potential to negatively impact local commerce, and <br /> <br />WHERAS, single lane, directionally alternating traffic will allow the continuance of access <br />to and from the City of Hastings for the purposes of commerce, employment, education, and <br />recreation, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Hastings and the Minnesota Department of Transportation seek the <br />collaborative efforts of City Council members, local business leaders, residents, City staff, <br />and other stakeholders to share ideas for how to best adapt to the anticipated traffic flow <br />conditions during the course of the rehabilitation project. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF HASTINGS AS FOLLOWS; <br /> <br />I. The City of Hastings supports the operation of single lane directionally alternating <br />traffic on the U.S. Highway 61 Mississippi River Bridge during the rehabilitation <br />project in 2008. <br />2. A committee consisting of City Council members, local business leaders, residents, <br />City staff: and other stakeholders shall be formed for the collaboration of ideas on <br />how to best adapt to the traffic flow conditions that are anticipated to occur during the <br />rehabilitation project. <br />3. The City of Hastings supports the scheduling of the project that will result in its <br />completion as soon as it is reasonably possible, thereby minimizing the potential <br />impact on commerce and business during the summer months of June, July and <br />August. <br />
