<br /> PROCLAMATION OF THE <br /> HASTINGS CITY COUNCIL <br /> RECOGNIZING THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN <br /> FOR THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS ON <br /> TUESDAY JUNE 19TH, 2007 <br /> IN THE CITY OF HASTINGS <br />WHEREAS, The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics raises funds and <br />awareness for Special Olympics worldwide; and <br />WHEREAS, all 50 states and more than 35 nations have their own version of the Torch <br />Run; and <br />WHEREAS, in Minnesota, the first Torch Run was organized in 1988 and Special <br />Olympics Minnesota now has the support of the Minnesota Association of Chiefs of Police, the <br />Minnesota State Patrol Troopers Association, and Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hastings Sharks are the local Special Olympics Minnesota sport team <br />meeting the needs of athletes with intellectual disabilities in the Hastings area and consists of <br />over 90 athletes who participate in basketball, bowling, swimming, poly hockey, gymnastics, and <br />golf; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hastings Sharks are fortunate to have the financial support of the <br />community and the gift of time from volunteer coaches; and <br />WHEREAS, on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, the Law Enforcement Torch Run will pass <br />through Hastings for the first time on the way to the 2007 Special Olympics Minnesota Summer <br />Games at the University of Minnesota Bierman Field; and <br />WHEREAS, the torch will arrive during the opening ceremonies on Thursday, June 21, <br />2007. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Hastings, <br />that the Special Olympics' Law Enforcement Torch Run, Special Olympics Minnesota and the <br />Hastings Sharks are recognized for their contributions for assisting athletes with intellectual <br />disabilities. <br />Adopted by the Hastings City Council this 17th Day of May, 2004 <br /> PaUl J.
