<br />City moves to E-Pay for Utility Bills <br /> <br />Are you interested in making your life easier? Sign up for E-pay for your Utility bills! When you're on the E-pay plan, <br />bill paying is easy and convenient because your bank automatically makes the scheduled payment. You save the cost <br />of postage and checks, and you can relax knowing your bill is paid, even when you're away on vacation or business. <br />And best of all, it's free! <br /> <br />Here's How it Works: The City of Hastings will still send you your bill as usual. Your bank will deduct payment noted on the <br />bill from your checking or savings account on the due date and pay the City of Hastings. You know that your bill is paid on time <br />and you don't have to do a thing. <br /> <br />How Do I Join? It's easy to join the E-Pay Plan. Simply complete the attached form and return it to the City of Hastings with a <br />voided check or a deposit slip. You will continue to receive a City of Hastings utility bill. <br />On your payment due date, your financial institution will automatically deduct the payment from your bank account and we will credit the <br />payment to your City of Hastings utility account. If your due date happens to fall on a weekend or bank holiday, the payment will be <br />processed the next business day. <br />You'll notice a difference on your bill. A message towards the bottom of the bill will appear stating "DO NOT PAY - DEBIT CHECKING". <br />Moving to a new location will affect your E-PAY Plan. If you move, your final bill will be paid through the E-PAY Plan, unless you make <br />other arrangements. To continue your E-PAY Plan at your new location, simply reapply. Ca1J the City of Hastings at the number on your <br />bill and we will be happy to send you a new appHcation form. <br />You can discontinue your E-PAY Plan whenever you choose. If you choose to discontinue your E-PAY Plan, just notify the City of <br />Hastings in writing. Or, your E-PAY Plan may be disconnected through a written request from your financial institution. <br />The City of Hastings will assess a "returned check charge" on any payment returned by the bank because of insufficient funds. The <br />amount of the payment will be reversed from your utility account. The bill may now be considered delinquent, as in accordance with the <br />City's Utility Billing Policies, and this may result in late penalties being assessed. The amount now due would be the previous amount <br />owed plus a NSF charge of $30.00. An immediate remittance of payment for the dishonored check by cashiers check, money order, or <br />cash must be made immediately. If not, disconnection procedures will follow. If the City of Hastings receives two insufficient funds <br />notices from your bank within a twelve-month period, we will assess a "return check charge" on each, and we will cancel your <br />participation in the City of Hastings' E-PAY Plan. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Page 4 <br />Fall 2002 <br />
