Preamble <br /> <br />r-, Orderly and safe movement of pedestrian traffic in the city <br />i <br /> <br />l requires the existence of a system of sidewalks to provide access <br /> <br />from residential areas to schools and commercial areas, and to con- <br /> <br />nect schools and commercial areas to each other. This system of <br /> <br />main sidewalks shall be known as Main Pedestrian Routes. The <br /> <br />existence of this system is a benefit to all citizens in the city, <br /> <br />present and future. Each new residence constructed in the city <br /> <br />increases the demand for such a system, and benefits therefrom. <br /> <br />2. Designation of Main pedestrian Routes <br /> <br />Main pedestrian Routes shall be designated as such by the City <br /> <br />Council, because of present or anticipated heavy pedestrian use. <br /> <br />,/ <br />I <br />, <br /> <br />A plan showing the Main pedestrian Routes of the city shall be <br />adopted by the city council. The Main Pedestrian Route Plan <br />attached hereto is hereby adopted as the Main Pedestrian Route <br />Plan for the city as of this date. Said plan shall be revised <br /> <br />.' <br /> <br />as needed to accomodate expansion in the city and chahges in ped- <br /> <br />estrian needs. <br /> <br />3. P~destrian Ways Designated - Right of Ways. <br />Main Pedestrian Routes may be along streets in street right- <br />of-ways, or between streets in which case they shall be known as <br /> <br />"Pedestrian Ways", shall be dedicated to the public, and on plats <br />hereinafter filed shall be designated as "Pedestrian Ways".. <br />4. Cons~ruction of Sidewalks in the Main Pedestrian Routes. <br /> <br />Sidewalks in Main Pedestrian Routes shall be constructed when <br /> <br />r-- <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />so ordered by the City Council, and shall be constructed generally <br />in accordance with the Capital Improvements Plan of the City. Funds <br /> <br />for construction and maintenance of sidewalks in the Main Pedestrian <br /> <br />Routes shall be paid for by the City solely, from the Main pedestrian <br />Route Fund created by this ordinance. In October of each year, <br />the council shall determine the sidewalk construction to be accom- <br /> <br />plished in the subsequent construction season. <br /> <br />. <br />
