Hastings,Minnesota
City Council Workshop
May 17, 2021
The City Council of the City of Hastings, Minnesota, met in a workshop on Monday, May 17,
2021 at 5:00 pm via Zoom virtual meeting.
Members Present: Mayor Fasbender, Councilmembers Braucks, Folch, Fox, Leifeld, Lund,
and Vaughan.
Staff Present: City Administrator Dan Wietecha, Public Works Director Nick Egger,
Finance Manager Chris Eitemiller, Community Development Director
John Hinman, Parks & Recreation Director Chris Jenkins, Police Chief
Bryan Schafer, Communications Coordinator Dawn Skelly, and Fire Chief
John Townsend.
Others Present: Chad Weinstein and Jamie Fischer of Ethical Leaders in Action.
Mayor Fasbender called the workshop to order at 5:05 pm.
Mr. Weinstein gave a brief overview of the strategic planning session scheduled for the day. He
noted potential strategic initiatives that had been identified in prior interviews and categorized
them in terms of the four strategic themes: people, processes, infrastructure, and finance
(internal-facing); community image and public engagement(external-facing); parks and public
spaces; and housing and economic development. City Councilmembers also proposed additional
strategic initiatives. A straw poll for each proposed initiative gave a relative priority ranking that
each initiative does merit further consideration, may merit that consideration, or does not merit
further consideration at this time. City Councilmembers stressed the importance of tracking
emerging or"not at this time" ideas to ensure they were still viable for the future.
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 pm.
(JCJ
Mary lYsbender, Mayor Kelly Murfaugh, City C
