POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> POSITION TITLE: Fire Chief/Ambulance Director/Emergency Manager <br /> DEPARTMENT: Fire <br /> STATUS: Regular,Exempt <br /> ACCOUNTABLE TO: City Administrator <br /> DATE APPROVED: March b,2000 <br /> POSITION SUMMARY <br /> Performs a variety of technical, administrative, and supervisory work in planning, <br /> organizing, directing and implementing fire prevention, suppression and emergency <br /> medical services to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property by fire and emergency <br /> medical conditions. Responsible for the overall management and supervision of the <br /> ambulance service for the delivery of highly competent, specialized emergency medical <br /> care and treatment. Serves as Emergency Manager for City. <br /> SUPERVISI.ON.RECEIVED: <br /> Works under the General Guidance and Direction of the City Administrator. <br /> SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br /> Supervises the Assistant Fire Chief and Secretary directly, and other department staff, <br /> officers or volunteers through subordinate officers. <br /> ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> Manages, plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the Fire and Ambulance <br /> Departments. <br /> Establishes policies and procedures for Fire and Ambulance Departments in order to <br /> implement directives from the City Administrator or City Council. <br /> Manages, directs, and supervises the Emergency Management Operations of the City. <br /> Plans and implements Fire and Ambulance programs for the City in order to better carry <br /> out the policies and goals including those set forth in the City's Affirmative Action Plan; <br /> reviews Departmental performance and effectiveness; formulates programs or policies to <br /> alleviate deficiencies. <br />
