Minutes of the Meeting of March 20, 2001
I. Quorum: Thorsen, Simacek, Goderstad, Smith present; Langenfeld, Sovik-Simens, Warg
absent. Cha'tman Thorsen called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
II. Minutes of February 20, 2001. Motion by Goderstad, second by Simacek to approve;
motion carried.
III. Review of building permits or design proposals.
A. David Storholm, 401 W. 2~. Storholm would like to replace exist'mg wood shingle
siding because it need fi'equent repainting. Storholm wanted to know what kind of replacement
siding would be approved. Their objection to replacement wood siding is its expense.
Commission suggested retaining the original siding, beneath the shingles il'it can be repaired and
painted. Storholm thought the resulting appearance oftha building would show effect of
remodeling and addition over time and that residing would be a more uniform appearance. HPC
will review several newer types of siding materials as alternatives to vinyl or aluminum~
Commission asked owner to consider removing enough shingles to show commission what the
original siding and building looks like. No decisions.
B. Ron and Marlene Craft - 216 2~ St. Review of window sash replacements for 2~a
floor. HRA assistance program requires HPC approval. Double hung prefinisbed tilt-pack inserts
were installed with full window sized, one over one pane. Motion by Smith, second by Goderstad
to approve; motion carried.
C. Dianne Addison - 613 Vermillion. Review of proposed wooden fence design.
Motion by Goderstad, second by Smith to approve the vertical board fences if the materials are
smooth and painted, not rough sawn; motion carried.
IV. New business
Applicants for two vacancies. Commissioners interviewed Jacqueline Boler, 412 W 7~
St. and Marlene Craft, 216 2nd St. Motion by Goderstad, second by Simacek to recommend
appointment of both applicants to City Council; motion carried, 4-0.
V. Meeting Adjourned. Motion by Goderstad, second by Simacek to adjourn.
