Minutes of the Meeting of February 20, 2001
I. Quorum: Commissioners Simacek, Langenfeld, Siemens, Thorsen, Goderstad, Smith present.
Meeting called to order by Chairman Thorsen at 7 p.n~
II. Minutes of January 15, 2001. Motion by Goderstad, second by Langenfeld to approve;
motion carried.
III. Review of building permits or design proposals.
IV. Unfinished business:
A. CLG grant request for 2001- 2002 for education project. Motion by Smith, second
by Goderstad to submit application with Council approval; motion carried.
B. NPS interpretive panels: Reviewed scope of work. HPC will hold open houses or
workshops to review content.
V. New business
A. HPC awards. Discussed guidelines and plaques. HPC can submit their nominations
in April. Newspaper story for March. Awards during Preservation week, May 13 - 19.
B. Two vacancies. Motion by Simacek, second by Sovik-Siemens to advertise for
applicants; motion carried.
C. Sign proposal Downtown property owners requested City to authorize signs that are
mounted at right angles to facade above sidewalk. Commissions recommendations:
All at same height.
No more than 2 ' 6" high by 2' wide.
Made of wood with iron brackets. No plastic.
Painted or gilded lettering. No prefab.
One per building.
Not lit, interior or exterior.
To be used only for store business idemification, not for product advertising.
VI. Staff & Committee Reports.
LeDuc Reuse - Minnesota Preservation Alliance interested in reining house.
Pioneer room - discussed stinting a~er Mr. Darsow retires.
Mailings - review process will be sent to owners of historic properties.
VII. Adjournment.
Motion by Goderstad, second by Simacek to adjourn; motion carried.
