HomeMy WebLinkAbout1-15-2001HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes of the Meeting of January 15, 2001 I. Quorum: Simack, Coutu, Sovik-Siemens, Langenfeld, Goderstad and Warg present. Vice- Chair Coutu called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. II. Minutes of November 21, 2000. Motion by Warg, second by Goderstad to approve; motion carded. No meeting in December. III. Review of building permits or design proposals. 103 E. Second. The aluminum awning collapsed. Repair work removed metal sheeting, uncovered the original transom, which needed to be raised, supported and one pane replaced. Owners will clean and repaint in the spring. Colors to be determined. IV. Unfinished business: CLG grant request for 2001-2002. Staffworking on request for publication and educational programs. V. New business A. Elections. Thorsen was nominated for Chairman by Goderstad, seconded by Warg, and elected unanimously. Warg was nominated for Vicechairman by Coutu, seconded by Goderstad and elected unanimously. Thorsen will continue to be the liason with Dakota County Historical Society. B. Membership. Warg and Goderstad agreed to serve another term. Coutu declined reappointment.. Staffwill call Schnirring about reappointment. Advertisement for applicants will be published. C. Marie Coutu retires. Goderstad moved and Sovik-Siemens seconded a resolution of recognition and appreciation for Marie's service on the commission, both as Chair and as Vice- chair during a very productive and precedent-setting nine years. Unanimously approved. D. Ordinance, conservation and hardship language. Simacek, Sovik-Siemens and Warg will help staffreview the ordinance for amendment and revise conservation and hardship drat~s for the Commission's recommendation to Council. VI. Staff & Committee Reports. Annual Report to SHPO distributed. LeDuc Reuse Study about complete. Decision not expected till summer. 1V~ailings to all historic property owners will be sent next month. Award program. The Committee ofLangenfeld, Coutu and Sovik-Siemens reported their progress on defining categories for recognition, a public nomination process and a presentation ceremony during preservation week. It was agreed that some awards could be for work done in past, as well as recently. The committee will look into engraved plaques as awards. Up to $300 may be spent. VII. Adjournment. Motion by Simacek and second by Sovik-Siemens to adjourn; motion carried.
