MINUTES OF MEETING OF JULY 14, 1997
1. Roll. Commissioners Cout~ Sovik-Siemens, Schnlrring, Thorsen and Warg present; Simacek and
Smith absent. Chairwoman Coutu called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
2. Minutes of June 17 and May 20, 1997: Mr. Schni_ning moved and Mr. Warg seconded approval;
motion carried, 5-0.
3. Bills. None.
4. Review of building permits or design proposals.
Ramsey Mill and Old Mill Park nomination to National Register. The nomination was
prepared by SI-[PO and will go to the State Review Board September 18th. The City/I-IPC was
notified and asked for comment. The HPC not having a "qualified" historian, a CLG review would
have to be contracted. City concerns and issues can be expressed by the Mayor. Mr. Schnirring
moved and Ms. Sovik-Siemens seconded authorization to spend up to $300 on a consultant review.
5. Staff & Committee Reports.
Proposed l:listoric District: City Council called Public Hearing for August 4, 1997. The
Planning Commission reviewed and recommended approval to the City Council on July 14, 1997.
LeDuc [louse: Hastings Historical Society will be visifmg the LeDuc House soon. The HPC
is welcome to attend, date to be provided.
6. Unfinished business.
Proposed historic district: The Hastings Historical Society raised questions about the
proposed district's boundaries in a newspaper article published this week. Discussion revealed that
their concern was for properties near but outside the boundary, such as Guardian Angels Chapel. GA
Chapel had been discussed by the HPC and Ms. Zellie. A number of potential properties near the
district will be recommended as local heritage preservation sites after Council action on the district.
7. New business. None.
8. Adjournment. Mr. Warg moved and Mr. Schnirdng second; motion carded, 5-0.
