HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-07-1996HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING, MARCH 7, 1996 1. Roll. Commissioners Schnirring, Simacek, Anderson, Thorsen and Coutu present. 2. Minutes of February 12, 1996. Mr. Schnkring moved, Mr. Thorsen seconded approval with two corrections.; motion carded. 3. Bills. Mr. Simacek moved, Ms. Anderson seconded approval; motion carried. a. IOS - 83.49 - copier maintenance for Pioneer room. 4. Staff & Committee Reports. a. Fence design. The County 42 - W. Second Street reconstruction project requires fencing along the north side of the street at the Hudson west parking lot and fi'om just west of 418 W. Second to Pine Street. As the design of the fence should be appropriate for the historic neighborhood, staff asked the HPC to select one of three designs. After discussion Ms. Coutu moved, Mr. Simacek seconded the choice of style B, attached; motion carried. b. ~ 1997Grant Application. As neither staffnor commissioners were available to attend the March 14 grant meeting in St. Paul, the Minnesota Historical Society will be notified that Hastings will not make a presentation. c. District study. A Progress Report dated March 7 was received from Landscape Research and reviewed; questions will be fonvarded by staff. 5. Review of building permits or design proposals. No applications at this time 6. Unfinished business. a. Illustrated sites guide. The Chamber of Commerce (Tourism Bureau) decided to print 10,000 of the guides for free distribution. Mr. Schnirfing moved, Ms. Coutu seconded that the HPC print 2,000 for thek own uses at the quantity price (. 14 ea.), including 600 for Dakota County, extras for City Hall, the Libraries and schools, and for tours conducted by the Pioneer Room volunteers, at a cost of $280; motion carded. 7.New business a. Post card. The Pioneer room staff proposed printing a historic photograph of the H&D on the Vermillion gorge trestle as a post card. They will also have new post cards of the former Court House and the Covered Bridge over Vermillion available this spring. If 3,000 were printed the cost will be $355. Mr. Simacek moved, Ms. Anderson seconded approval; motion carded. 8. Adjournment. Mr. Simacek so moved, Mr. Schnirring seconded; motion carded.
