MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 9, 1994
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Simacek. Commissioners
Goderstad, Coutu, Thorsen, Smith and Simacek present; Fuchs absent.
2. Minutes of October 12, 1994. Mr. Goderstad moved and Mr. Smith seconded approval as
printed; motion carried.
3. Bills. Mr. Smith moved and Mr. Goderstad seconded approval of the bills; motion carded.

b. Ethel Theiling - $9.59 - Dakota Co. Genealolgy
e. IOS - $69.00 - maintenance contract
4. Permit Reviews
a. Mississippi Belle, 101 E. Second. Commercial Historic District. Mr. & Mrs. Clare
presented awning and signage designs for Mississippi Belle: green canvas awnings with a serif
type face on the awning and the sign. Mr. Thorsen moved and Mrs. Coutu seconded approval
on the awnings as compatible with the building and the district; motion carried. Mrs. Coutu
moved and Mr. Simacek seconded approval of the sign as compatible with the building and the
district; motion carried.
b. Strauss House, 207 W. Second. Residential Historic District. Mr. Steve Lowy
presented a repair to the back porch on behalf of the owner, Mr. Robert Farrelh rotted wood
parts removed and replaced with treated wood in the same size and shape. The except is the
rotted base of the porch post. The post appears to be turn of the century but used on a porch
obviously added in the last 30 years or so, perhaps salvaged from an earlier back porch. Should
the post be kept and repaired or replaced? After discussion of alternatives including epoxy, Mr.
Thorsen moved and Mrs. Coutu seconded approval of a technique of removing the rotted area
and boxing around the base of the original post; motion carried.
5. Membership. Staff reported two applications received, Anne Anderson and Irv Schnirring.
Commission will wait till next meeting before submitting names to council.
6. New business. Archives and Collections Committee. Staff explained the concept of
establishing a committee of this name to oversee the Pioneer room and historic/art material
donated to the city, to include Ethel Theiling, Bob Olson, Dick Darsow, Hazel Jacobsen and
Bonnie Zeien. Mr. Goderstad moved and Mr. Smith seconded endorsement of the concept;
motion carried.
7. Adjournment. Mr. Smith moved and Mr. Thorsen seconded; motion carried.
