HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-15-1998HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES O1. MEETING O1' SEPTEMBER 15, 1998 l.Roll. Commissioners Thorsen, Coum, Goderstad, Warg and Simacek present. Mx. Thorsen called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. 2. Review of building permits or design proposals. a. 208 Second St. E. Bob Bathrick - reconstruct damaged storefront. Contributing, Downtown National Register District. Mr. Goderstand moved and Ms. Coutu seconded approval of the design provided by Mr. Bathrick's contractor, MX. Swanstrom, based on these findings. First, this is an art deco storefront (late 20s-early 30s') possessing its own significance as the only remaining example of its type in the community and should be preserved (rebuilt at, er accident). Second, the design for repairing the art glass and replacing the windows, and building a new bulkhead with the entry door in the center, is appropriate for the style of building, and compatible with the adjacent historic buildings. Motion carried, 5-0. b. 521 Tyler - Rick Harrington - vinyl side new garage and if approved, house next year. Non-contributing, Old Hastings Historic District. After discussion, Chairman Thorsen asked the HPC to meet at the property at 5:30 p.m. on September 21 to view the condition of the wood siding beneath the existing aluminum siding on the house. The key issues to resolve will be the condition of the original material and the amount of original design remaining. 3. Adjournment. MX. Warg moved and Mx. Goderstad seconded adjournment; motion carried.
