HomeMy WebLinkAbout20090706 - VI-11MEMO To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Tom Montgomery Date: June 30, 2009 Re: Authorize Advertisement for Bids -Hwy 55 Ground Storage Tank Painting Council is requested to authorize advertisement for bids for the proposed Hwy 55 Ground Storage Tank repainting project. The 2009 Water Fund budget included $200,000 for repainting the tank. A color copy of the proposed paint scheme is linked to this agenda item on the City's web page. The new colors will match the Water Treatment Plant color scheme. Adhesion testing of the existing paint has determined that the existing paint does not need to be sandblasted off to bare metal. However many small areas will need to be sandblasted and repaired. Because these are small areas, the tank will not need to be shrouded. Given the close proximity of houses, businesses and the Water Treatment Plant, painting techniques will be used to preclude the possibility of airborne drift of paint. The painting crews will need a staging area for their trailers and equipment. Staff has negotiated with owner of the property to the east to utilize the parking area behind their building as a staging area and overlay this rear parking area once the proj ect is complete. The project schedule would call for Council to award a contract at their August 3rd meeting, with tank painting completed by early October.
