HomeMy WebLinkAbout20090720 - VI-06MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Dave Osberg, City Administrator DATE: July 16, 2009 SUBJECT: Joint Powers Program Senior Center Program Proposed Amendment RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION It is recommended that the City Council take action approving action that memorializes the following understanding between the City of Hastings and ISD #200 regarding the Hastings Area Senior Center: "Be it resolved, if the Hastings Area Senior Center were sold, and the Senior Center relocated to another facility, the City of Hastings and Independent School District #200 understand and agree the proceeds from the sale of the Senior Center would be used for the purchase and/or remodeling of a facility to accommodate the needs of the Senior Center program." BACKGROUND Currently the City of Hastings owns the building in which the Senior Center program operates. Both the City of Hastings and ISD #200 contributed equally over a ten year period the annual payment for the funding of the facility. At the joint meeting between the City of Hastings City Council and the ISD #200 School Board on June 11, 2009 there was general agreement, with no official action taken, that if in the future the existing Senior Center building were ever sold, the proceeds would be used for a different Senior Center building, for purchase and/or remodeling. While all parties were in general agreement of the concept, there was nothing officially documented by either the City Council or the School Board. The action above will memorialize the understanding of the City of Hastings regarding the proceeds of any future sale of the facility in which the Senior Ceram is currently located. David M.
