The FIRM is used to determine flood insurance rates and to help the community with floodplain management. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is proposing the replacement of the Hwy. 61 Hastings Bridge crossing the Mississippi River. The proposed project will not permanently increase the 1% annual chance water-surface elevation. The proposed project will result in temporary increases in the 1% annual chance water-surface elevations for the Mississippi River with a maximum increase of 0.06 feet (3/4 inch) between Hwy. 61, and Lock and Dam #2. The temporary increase will occur between June 2010, and Dec. 2014. The proposed project may result in a permanent maximum decrease in the 1 % annual chance water-surface elevation of 0.01 feet (1/8 inch) between Hwy. 61, and Lock and Dam #2. We would like to obtain your acceptance of the temporary increase in the 1 % annual chance (Zone A) floodplain between Hwy. 61, and Lock and Dam #2. Please sign and date the provided copy of this letter to signify your acceptance and return it to me by Sep. 14, 2009. An equal opportunity employer If you have any questions or concerns about the proposed project or its affect on the 1% annual chance water-surface elevation, you may contact me at 651-234-7880. Sincerely, , ~ ~ f Steve Kordosky Mn/DOT Hwy. 61 Hastings Bridge Project Manager I, Mayor Paul Hicks, accept the temporary increase of the 1% annual chance water- surface elevation as described above.
