Regular Meeting
7:00 p.m.
Chair McInnis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Roll Call

Commissioners Present: Bullington, McInnis, Slaten, Stevens, Vaughn, Zeyen
Commissioners Absent: Peine
Staff Present: Planning Director Hinzman
Approval of Minutes
2. –July 13, 2009
Motion by Commissioner Stevens to approve the July 13, 2009 meeting minutes as presented.
Seconded by Commissioner Vaughn.
Upon vote taken, Ayes 6, Nays 0. Motion carried.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
City of Hastings – Ordinance Amendment #2009-20 – Amend City Code 155.08 - Signs

Planning Director Hinzman asked the Commission to table the public hearing and review until
the August 24, 2009 meeting in order to allow the Heritage Preservation Commission the
opportunity to review the request.
Motion by Commissioner Zeyen to table the public hearing and review until the August 24,
2009. Seconded by Commissioner Stevens.
Upon vote taken, Ayes 6, Nays 0. Motion carried.
OTHER ACTIONS
Don TurnbullType II Home Occupation License Review #2009-21 – 200 State Street.

Planning Director Hinzman provided the staff report.
Chair McInnis opened the item for any public comment. No one commented.
Commissioner Bullington asked for clarification on a comment from a neighbor; were they for
or against the project?

Don Turnbull resident of 200 State Street and applicant stated the commenter had no issue
with his request.
Commissioner Stevens asked for clarification on how vehicles would be serviced. Mr.
Turnbull stated most vehicles would be serviced off site, and not at his residence.
Commissioner Slaten asked if any hazardous materials would be used in the cleaning? Would
a parts cleaner be used? Mr. Turnbull stated there would be no hazardous materials or parts
cleaner used.
Motion by Commissioner Bullington to recommend approval of Home Occupation Permit
#2009-21 subject to the conditions of the staff report. Seconded by Commissioner Vaughn.
Upon vote taken, Ayes 6, Nays 0. Motion carried.
Other Business

Planning Director Hinzman provided an update on past City Council actions.
Adjournment

Motion by Zeyen to adjourn the August 10, 2009, Planning Commission meeting. Seconded
by Vaughn.
Upon vote taken, Ayes 6, Nays 0. Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
