HomeMy WebLinkAbout20090921 - VI-03 MEMO To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Nick Egger Date: September 16, 2009 Re: Change Order #1 for Industrial Park Area Improvements Enclosed for Council approval is Change Order #1. This change order makes adjustments to unit prices for three existing bid items in the project contract, and also an adjustment to testing procedures to be used for certain materials. As an alternative material has been approved as an equal substitute for the turf reinforcement mat that will be used for the Ravine stabilization work, with this alternative material being accepted, the cost of installation is slightly less than that of the material originally specified, and City staff have negotiated with the contractor for a reduced unit price for the work. Also being adjusted are the unit prices for the new light pole installations and reinstallation of existing light pole line items. The original plans and specifications omitted requirements for the hardware to mount the light fixtures to the poles to be comprised of stainless steel. Staff has reconsidered this issue and is requiring the contractor to provide stainless steel hardware for the fixture installations. Accordingly, the material costs for the hardware is slightly higher, and is reflected in the form of increases in the unit prices for each type of pole installation. Lastly, testing procedures called for in the original specifications for the project differed from standard practices on previous projects. However, with the project being partially funded through the City’s MnDOT State Aid funds, as a matter of documentation, staff is recording the change in testing procedures through the use of this change order. The overall cost impact of this change order is estimated to save the City approximately $6,475.00.
