Subject: Grant Support Letter
A program was offered through Dakota County in which the county solicited county
communities to submit trail projects that would be evaluated for services of a professional
grant writer paid for by the County.
I submitted a proposal for the County Road 46/47 trail connection and this project received
the highest rating and will be utilizing the services of the professional grant writer.
I am seeking the NRRC support as the City of Hastings pursues outside resources to
provide financial assistance to modify this trail crossing.
I have attached a letter of support that I drafted on behalf of the NRRC. If you are in
agreement with the context of this letter, I would appreciate if the NRRC members would
sign this letter at our meeting.
I welcome any comments.
Thank you!

Subject: Support for Trail Modification
This memo is in support of the City of Hastings’ efforts to modify our loop trail connection that presently
directs trail users to cross a very busy and high-speed roadway, Dakota County Road 46.
At the time this trail section was developed, City development on the south side of our community where this
trail section is located was minimal and thus the number of vehicles that traveled on Dakota County Road 46
was less than the number of vehicles that currently travel this roadway as development has happened.
Therefore, when the trail section was originally conceived, roadway traffic was less of a concern.
With the proposed trail connection outlined within the grant application, this will provide a much safer and
pleasant trail connection than the current trail connection. As you can see by the community support letters,
the City of Hastings Trail System is very popular and this section of trail is and has been our number one
area of concern.
It is the Natural Resources and Recreation Commission’s hope that you also find this trail connection as
important as we do!
If you have any additional questions, you are encouraged to contact the Hastings Parks and Recreation
Director, Barry Bernstein, at 651-480-6176 or bbernstein@ci.hastings.mn.us.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,
