HomeMy WebLinkAbout19951019 ResolutionHASTINGS CHARTER COMMISSION RESOLUTION OF HASTINGS CHARTER COMMISSION RECOMMENDING A CHANGE IN HASTINGS CITY CHARTER SECTION 4.Q1 REGARDING EMERGENCY MEETINGS AND RECOMMENDING THIS AMENDMENT BE APPROVED BY ORDINANCE October 19, 1995 Commissioner Brown introduced the fallowing Resolution and moved its adoption: WHEREAS, Hastings City Charter Section 4.01 specifies when an emergency meeting may be called by the City Council, and WHEREAS, the Minnesota Open Meeting Law (Minn. Stat. X471.705) also provides direction on when an emergency meeting may be called by a city council, and WHEREAS, the definition of emergency meeting in state law should be incorporated into Section 4.01. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Hastings Charter Commission, as follows: 1. Section 4.01 of the Hastings City Charter Shall be amended to read as follows: EMERGENCY COUNCIL MEETINGS. The mayor or any three members of the Council may call an emergency meeting of the Council upon one hour's notice to each member of the Council. An emergency meeting is a meeting_.called because of circumstances that, in the judgment of the mayor, or any three members of the Coun_ciJ., requires immediate consideration by the Council. Only matters relating to said emergency may be considered at this meeting. The City shall also comply with all requirements of the Open Meeting Law in effect at that time. 2. The Hastings Charter Commission recommends the City Council approve this Charter Amendment by ordinance, as provided by Minn. Stat. ~~k10.12.
