HASTINGS CHARTER COMMISSION
HASTINGS, MINNESOTA

and moved its adoption:
introduced the following Resolution
WHEREAS, the Hastings Charter Commission has reviewed the language in
City Charter Section 2.05 and believes it should be reworded, without changing its
substance or intent; and
WHEREAS, the Hastings Charter Commission finds that if a change is not made
in Section 2.05, future election filing deadlines may be misinterpreted and cause
unnecessary confusion and potential problems in determining the proper candidates far
municipal office; and -
WHEREAS, the Hastings Charter Commission believes this Section of the City
Charter should be amended through the Ordinance procedure, as allowed by Minn.
Stat. 410.12, Subd. 7.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HASTINGS CHARTER
COMMISSION AS FOLLOWS:
1. The Hastings Charter Commission recommends that the first sentence in
Section 2.05 "Petitions for Elections" of the Hastings Home Rule Charter shah
be amended to read as follows:
"Not more than ten, nor less than eight weeks before a scheduled Primary
Election Day, as outlined in Section 2.04, an individual who is eligible and
desires to become a candidate for an office to be voted for at the election, shall
file an Affidavit ofi Candidacy with the City Clerk of the City of Hastings."
II. The Hastings Cb~rter Commission recommends that the Hastings City Council
adopt this proposed Charter Amendment by Ordinance, in the manner allowed
by Minnesota Statute 410.12, Subdivision 7.
Commissioner xoffz~an seconded the foregoing Resolution and
upon being put to a voke, the Resolution was unanimously adopted by all Charter
Commission members present at the meeting.
Whereupon, the Chair declared this Resolution to be duly passed.
