Parks and Recreation Commission
Departmental Updates – May, 2010
Parks Maintenance Activities
The parks maintenance crew has been out mowing the city parks for the last three weeks.
The parks have started to take on a few seasonal employees to help with the upcoming season.
Early in April the boat dock that is stored across the river at Hub’s landing was moved back across the river to Jaycee Park.
The fishing pier at Lake Isabelle is now back open after being closed for the winter months.
Ball diamond grooming has begun to take place around the parks in preparation for the upcoming season.
And finally, we shipped Kevin Smith out to better and bigger things and wish him the best of luck!
And we can’t forget to welcome Cory Likes to the committee…
Hastings Family Aquatic Center
Plaster project is just about wrapped up. Weather permitting the crew is hoping to finish plastering on Friday May 7, 2010.
Dumpster enclosure construction has begun and should also be wrapped up next week. The purpose of the dumpster is to
be more efficient in recycling the enormous amount of cardboard HFAC generates during the season.
Interior of building will also be painted the week of May 10, 2010.
Hastings Civic Arena
Circus will be here on Tuesday, 5/11/10.
Air quality is being discussed at the State Capitol and may go to vote early next week, 5/10/10. There are some good issues
in the bill. But there are also areas where some issues should be tabled for more discussion and fact finding. Included in
your packet is a comparison between the House and Senate Ice Arena Bills, for your information.
Contracts have been sent out to the groups that are having 3 week summer hockey camp 6/14/10-7/2/10.
