Staff had them all cleaned up in a day.  Repairs to the Rebecca fishing pier have been completed and the pier is in operation again.  In joint coordination with Public Works and the DNR, the public boat ramp was fixed so that it will not continue to undermine. It is still closed due to the west ramp breaking off and falling into the river.  With all the rain we are still continuing to mow every day and are still keeping on track with the turf.  Approximately 3 miles of City trails have been seal coated.  The Parks & Recreation Department welcomed the arrival of Terry Meier to our shop. Terry is a transfer from the Public Works Dept. and has been with the City for 10+ years. Hastings Family Aquatic Center  First 2 of 6 swim lesson sessions are finished –we have received favorable surveys from participants. Attached are preliminary results. (and the response that I should be at lessons more is from Kim Niederkorn who works for the City. She is bored at evening lessons – so let’s not take her response as I should be working longer hours than I already am, ok?)  Attendance has been average compared to previous years.  We have FREE Rivertown Days Teen Night this week from 8-11PM  Safety committee walked through facility with Jared Flewellen last week. They had some minor issues and will email the results to Darbie, Jared, and Barry.  Turbo chef food items are popular, with French fries being the most requested turbo chef item. Recreation  Summer Softball is beginning to wind down but the rain is affecting all nights  Fall Adult Sports registrations have begun  Veterans Park will have tournaments every weekend is July except one and then another tournament in August  Safety Camp is coming up on July 27th Hastings Civic Arena  Finished summer hockey camps for Boys and Girls level of U10’s / 12’s, Peewee’s, Bantam’s, and High School. 6/14/10 to 7/2/10 - A total of 15 dates and 90 hours. This camp was put on by the high school coaches. There also were 3 extra rented by the public.  The new doors / frames are here and were painted the week of 6/28/10. They started installing them 7/6/10. There are a total of 11 frames and 15 doors to install. They are thinking it will take 6 to 7 eight-hour days to complete.  The arena plans are to be in the ice season again 8/15/10-10/17/10 for the fall ice season. This does then run up to the winter season which will start 10/18/10 to 3/13/11.  Making schedules up with the High School, Hastings Hockey Boosters and River Blades Skating School for the winter season. Participants will build boats out of recycled/recyclable materials and race them at Lake Rebecca for cash prizes on Saturday, th July 17.  Maintenance staff will again place clear stream bins next to garbage cans at high use areas of Rivertown Days to collect recycling.  The Downtown Business Association is borrowing 10 clear stream bins for each Cruise In event in order to collect recycling. Maintenance staff is collecting that recycling and bringing it back to our shop for pick up by Waste Management. Youth First  Another Local Jam was held on Friday, June 18. The turnout was less than expected but the bands were awesome and the weather delightful – no rain!!!  After the loss of several Advisory Council Members due to graduations and relocations, orientation for new Youth First Advisory council members is underway. The list of new council members include: Melaine Devine, Whitney Johnson, Abigail Schultz, Corey Most, Kelsey O’Hara, Mikaila England and former Hastings Mayor Mike Werner.  Youth First will again be involved with Hastings Rivertown Days Teen night @ Hastings Aquatic Center. We will hold contests and asset building activities for youth in attendance. We are also looking for a cost effective way to be involved with the Rivertown Days Parade. That may involve partnering with another parade participant.  Youth First has been asked to participate with the Saturday Night Cruise Ins on August 7, 2010. We will be organizing youth bands to play on Sibley Street by Levee Park and helping with the information booth. This car show is dedicated to Honoring Military Families and Drug prevention.
