Parks Maintenance Activities
With the season winding down, we have begun to change the summer equipment over to the winter season
equipment.
The boat dock along the Mississippi River was moved across the river on 11-3-10.
Fall floods have hindered the movement of the gangway on Lake Isabel dock.
This past month, Paul Mahoney attended the National Playground Safety Seminar.

Building is winterized; leaves will be removed from pool shell and filled with water for the winter.
The manhole pump has been equipped with new floats and is working in auto mode again.
A meeting was conducted with the project engineer and representative from the plaster company on the work
done earlier this spring. Several repairs have been completed and the only thing we are waiting on is the
replacement of new blue safety mats which Darbie is working on with the representative from PCI. Money is still
being withheld until the portion of the project is complete.

The Parks & Recreation maintenance staff will also flood and maintain Wilson Park, Isabel Park, Kennedy, and
the rink behind the Civic Arena.
Youth First
October was a busy month! The Halloween Party on Friday, October 29 was another huge success with
community donations over $3,200.00 along with food and prize donations. We had in attendance over 1,500
people and were able to present Hastings Family Service with $615.00 and 1,077 pounds of donations.
The favorite activity was the Haunted Hallway and the Reptile Amphibian Zoo, which displayed several
interesting animals.

Youth First has also been working with Community Partner Collaboration on a “Get the Word Out” committee.
This committee focus is how to best address the events and activities of Hastings organizations as well as their
need for volunteers, donations, etc. We have determined the focus and now are assessing various options to
address this need.
On October 13, I was able to attend the Minnesota Prevention Resource Council convention in St. Cloud for a
day of education on how surrounding communities address drug and alcohol issues.
November will begin the planning process for the annual Adopt-A-Family Coin Drive at Hastings High School and
Hastings Middle School. Planning LOCAL JAMS for students will also be addressed.
