“Creating Community Through People, Parks, and Programs”
Date: January 7, 2011
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Barry Bernstein, Parks and Recreation Director
Subject: Youth Commission Member
At a recent PRC meeting, the PRC was presented with a concept of allowing a youth member(s) to serve on the
Parks & Recreation Commission. The PRC directed Parks and Recreation Director Bernstein to seek
information as to how other City of Hastings commissions, as well as how other communities, handle youth
serving on commissions.
The new Hastings Public Safety Commission has a stipulation for youth to serve on the Commission. Also,
enclosed in this information are documents showing how the City of Burnsville welcomes youth to serve on the
Park Board.
I am seeking a recommendation from the PRC supporting the effort to develop further strategy on welcoming
youth from our community to serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Thank you!
