HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-08-2011 PRC 06 Dept UpdatesCity of Hastings Parks & Recreation 920 W 10 St, Hastings MN 55033 th Ph: (651) 480-6175 Fax: (651) 437-5396 Web: www.ci.hastings.mn.us “Creating Community Through People, Parks, and Programs” Parks and Recreation Commission Departmental Updates – February, 2011 Parks Maintenance Activities  The Lake Isabel dock has been successfully secured for the upcoming spring.  Even with all the snow this year, the trails have remained open. st  Flooding of the ice skating rinks is still going on; this will be done February 21  Parks and Recreation have meet with the DNR in regards to a new public boat launch and talks went very well. Warming Houses  Frosty Frolic was held on Thursday, January 13 at Pioneer Park from 5-7PM. The free event hosted approximately 85 skaters. The event provided hot chocolate, popcorn, indoor craft, coloring, bonfire, and several on-ice games.  Pioneer Park, Wallin Park and Lions Park have continued to have good skater attendance for how cold and snowy the 2010-11 winter has been. Typically warming houses are open 5 hours each weeknight and 15 hours on the weekends. Skate attendance at the three rinks total for the 2010-11 season is 4,110. At this time last year, the attendance for the three rinks was 5,127.  Rinks and warming houses are scheduled to close on Monday February 21, 2011. Hastings Family Aquatic Center  Re-hire letters have gone out – different application process for returning staff. They now must go through a re- interview and essay writing process.  2011 season dates have been set, including open swim, lap swim, and swim lessons.  Registration day will be Monday April 4, 2011. Recycling  Staff applied for and received our annual grant from Dakota County for 2011 Waste Abatement. The amount granted for this year is $22,100.  The Parks & Trails Clean Up event has been set for May 7, 2011. This event is done in celebration of Earth Day. With the cold and rainy weather we had last year in late April, we are trying the first weekend in May in the hopes of having better weather for the event.
