SUBJECT: Second .~endment to Ordinance No. 2l-Second Series
Through this vehicle I am registering my objection (veto) to the
passage of the Second Amendment to Ordinance No. 2l-Second Series.
I have no objection to the renaming of 11th Street to 12th Street
or the renaming of 12th Street to 13th Street. However, what we are striving
for - especially after the public reaction we received on the passage of this
original ordinance, is objectivity and simplicity. By renaming this U-shaped
Street which terminates at both ends in Cul-de-sacs with four different street
names does not in my mind, fulfill our goals.
The practice of referring to Cul-de-sacs as "Courts" is not mandatory.
For pure Cul-de-sacs it is an acceptable practice. For streets that terminate
in Cul-de-sacs the practice of naming the Cul-de-sacs "Court" is somewhat con-
fusing to the visitors to our City.
Street
Court.
Valley
We have three such cases at present:
Court; Brittany Road- Brittany Court;
We also have two Cul-de-sacs that do
Lane and Zweber Lane.
Eighteenth Street- Eighteenth
and Honeysuckle Lane- Honeysuckle
not follow this confusing practice:
It is my suggestion that ,.;e do not approve the I13Jmng of the D"O
Cul-de-sacs in question "Courts".
Now we corne to the part of the reI1i:lining question t}lat seems to compli-
cate the situation completely. Can you imagine a visitor coming to town and
trying to find Rosemary Lane when he is driving West on Fourteenth and sees
only the Blueberry Lane street sign on the right hand side of Fourteenth Street?
How long would it take him to reCllize that on one side of Fourteenth Street
i~_Blueber]y Lane cmd on the other side of Fourteenth Street is Rosemary Lane.
I hope the ,CowK,il can restudy this si tuation and approve the naming of
this entire street either Blueberry Lane or Rosemary Lane.
