QUORUM: Commissioners Present: Boler, Sovik-Siemens, Goderstad, Martin, Hellie Commissioners Absent: Warg, Simacek, LaBreck Staff Present: Grossman, Wiekert II. REVIEW OF BUILDING PERMITS OR DESIGN PROPOSALS 717 Eddy Street – St. John’s Lutheran Church – Siding Replacement. (1) Carrol Tammen, the chairman of the St. John’s Church, spoke with Dave Buck, Hastings Siding and Remodeling, to find smooth siding and agreed on aluminum siding since they make smooth siding. Mr. Buck stated that he was unable to find smooth siding in aluminum. He showed samples of the smoothest steel siding. One was a universal product that had some texture, but not grain. It is also known as a Dutch lap siding. The other product is manufactured by Exterior Innovations Inc. The one from Exterior Innovations has a tendency to buckle and develop an “oil canning” which would require the siding to be replaced. This product also had a texture to it, but the manufacturer considers these to be smooth siding. He stated that he called around to all manufacturers but was unable to find anyone who makes smooth steel siding. Even smooth siding has some type of texture to the material. Commissioners discussed the Dutch lap siding to determine if that would be acceptable for this building since it was built in 1981. The review is due to it being within the Historic District. Motion by Hellie and seconded by Martin to approve the Dutch lap siding sample with the following conditions: 1. Use least number of sheets possible to avoid too many seams. 2. Keep extra sheets for repair. 3. Use a window surround made of vinyl instead of J strips. 4. Build a solid wood corner board wrapped in metal. Adjournment With no further business, Goderstad moved and Martin seconded to close the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
