HomeMy WebLinkAbout6-Hastings Schools Diversity and Inclusion Proposal April 25th, 2018 Superintendent Tim Collins Hastings Public Schools 1000 West 11th Street Hastings, MN 55033 Dear Superintendent Collins, The YMCA is extremely excited about the proclamation of the joint resolution about diversity, inclusion, and equity in Hastings and the Y is honored to be a part of this process. The YMCA is uniquely positioned to help the community in the implementation phase of this process and has the resources and experience to offer successful and sustainable programming for the community. With entry points for people at all levels in the community, the YMCA will be able to further the work started by the joint resolution broadly within the community. At the YMCA, we work relentlessly with our community so all can thrive in each stage of life. Social responsibly is one of our three pillars, and—because of this—the YMCA has committed our resources and financial support behind this initiative. We will be rolling out two different opportunities for the community. The first will be the community-involvement phase tentatively starting in the fall. The total cost of the community phase will be $89,000 and the YMCA has secured $50,000 to be used for the Hastings community. We are requesting the city and the school district to fund the remaining $39,000 for the community phase of this programming so everyone who wants to participate can. We would like to request that a contribution of $19,500, half of the remaining cost, be considered to support this work. We have also worked with our funders so your contribution can be split over two years. During the community phase, we will engage 250 community members in these events. I have attached a description of the offerings for your review. The second opportunity tentatively starting in January 2019 will be for community organizations to send their employees and volunteers to an Equity Leadership Institute offered here in Hastings. We will be offering organizations the opportunity to fund their participants to attend these trainings. There will be 50 spots available. Cost will be $1,000 per participant, which will also cover the cost for 10 people from the community to experience this opportunity free of charge. The YMCA has secured $4,500 to offer the Social Responsibility Assessment free of charge for those organizations that would like to participate. It is our hope that the school district will participate by paying to send employees through these trainings. More information will be available as the details are determined. I would be happy to discuss this proposal in depth with you at your convenience. Thank you for your commitment to our community and your consideration of this financial contribution to continue this important work. I look forward to working with you in this next phase.
