HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/10/73MINUTES OF THE HASTINGS PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING HELD MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1973 Members Present: Junior Member: Hallberg, Hirchert, Jenson Schumacher Kramer, Linde, Tanner, St0ffel Minutes of November 12, 1973 meeting approved. Request by Twin City Tech Co. for re-~oning land on South 3rd Street from C-2 to I-2. This company is engaged in light fabrication and assembly. Mr. Moechnig of the company indicates that there would be no foundry or painting at this factory. Matter referred to Trautmann Committee. Request for variance to allow construction of a barbed wire fence by Mr. Hoffman, Lehmann and Meier. Hallberg Committee recommends denial based on Section 5.6 of the zoning ordinance, which does not allow barbed wire fences within city limits. Committee finds that there is no need for protecting the public safety. Motion Tanner, second Kramer to hold over ~is matter to be studied together with the current request by Smead Manufacturing Company and the earlier request by the Ben Franklin Store, Central Natural Gas and the True Value Store. These matters should be considered in conjunction with a proposed revision of this portion of the zoning ordinance. All ayes. Request by Smead Manufacturing Company for a fence variance held over to be studed as above. Vernon Jensen request for variance. Tom Reuter request for variance. Hallberg Committee recommends allowing a well on eacn, in accordance with current ordinance, which also requires special permit of the city council and the Committee recommends denial of a variance to allow septic tanks. Committee recommends that sewer hook-up De required. Motion Hallberg, Second Linde to adopt the committee report. Ayes: Jensen, Hallberg, Stoffel, Linde, Tanner No: Kramer, Hirchert William Gegen request for variance of a side yard set back to allow construction of a fireplace. Chairman Jensen reported that the council had granted the variance following a Planning Commission subcommittee report recommending approval. Motion Hallberg, second Stoffel to recommend re-appointment of Mr. Trautman and Mrs. Linde for an additional term on the Planning Commission. All ayes.
