Public Works Department Streets & Utilities 480-6185 Engineering 480-2334 PROPOSED 2003 STREET AND UTILITY CONSTRUCTION General Sieben Drive Construction will begin soon on the extension of General Sieben Drive south from 15th Street to connect to Country Road #46. The construction will include sidewalk and a bituminous trail, a bridge crossing over the Vermillion River, and the construction of a trunk watermain and a sanitary sewer lift station. The construction schedule calls for the road extension to be completed by the end of the year. The connection of General Sieben Drive to Country Road #46 will provide a needed north! south collector street at the west end of the City and help relieve the volume of traffic on Pleasant Drive. The widening and reconstruction of General Sieben Drive between the South Frontage Road and 4'" Street, adjacent to Cub Foods, Target, Wal- Mart and the Dakota County Government Center, will be completed later this spring. Remaining work includes placing the final lift of bituminous paving, lane striping, replacing the temporary traffic signals at Highway 55 with new permanent signals, sidewalk and trail construction, and landscaping. - .~. urtst.tlon .. ';1_ Project 2003-20 General Sieben Dr. Extension Riverwood!South Oaks On the south end of town, design work is progressing for the construction of new collector streets that will link new developments and provide access to both Highway 61 and Country Road #46. The new collector roads will include an extension of 36'" Street west to connect to Village Trail and Riverwood Drive within the Riverwood development; an extension of 31 51 Street west to connect to County Road #46; an extension of Century Drive north to connect to 31" Street; and an extension of Bohlken Drive west and south to connect to 3151 Street. Construction of 31" Street and 36'h Street will include three large box culvert installations, crossing over the large drainage ways between the Riverwood, Century South and South Oaks developments. Sidewalk and bituminous trails will also be constructed along 31" and 36'h Streets along with interconnecting trails through the Century South and South Oaks Addition to the existing trail aiong the Vermillion River. Other Construction Projects Construction of a Hwy 61 underpass for the Vermillion River Trail is planned for later this year. The City received approximately $300,000 in grants to help fund this construction. The existing trail will be extended towards the Vermillion River at its intersection with Cannon Street behind Applebee's Restaurant, and run along the Vermillion River bank and beneath the Highway 61 bridge to connect to the existing trail system in the Vermillion Falls Park. The work will include lighting, storm sewer relocation and retaining wall construction. In cooperation with MnDOT, the southeast corner of the 10th Street and Highway 61 intersection will be reconstructed to add a right turn lane and broaden the corner to all trucks to make an easier turn from northbound Highway 61 to eastbound 10th Street. The traffic signal located at this corner that is frequently struck by turning trucks will also be relocated. Start of construction is waiting on an easement from Walgreens needed to relocate the sidewalk at this corner. New Developments Construction has started on the street and utility improvements for the Wallin 1 Dlh Addition on the west end of town. These improvements will include connecting both Northridge Drive and River Shore Drive to the new General Sieben Drive extension. On the south end of town, the South Pines 6'h Addition on the west side of Highway 316 will extend existing streets south to connect to Michael Avenue.
