<br />Wallin Park Update <br />Director Bernstein updated NRRC members on the Whallin shelter project. He <br />said it was going well and anticipating the shelter to be open for the winter <br />skating season. Bernstein mentioned that their will have to be site restoration <br />work next spring. Bernstein said this was necessary to avoid heavy equipment <br />damaging the interior park trail <br /> <br />Pioneer Park Update <br />Director Bernstein informed the NRRC about phase 1 of Pioneer Park. He said <br />the rink is almost complete. Member Sieben mentioned that he thinks the rink <br />will be heavily used and has heard positive comments about the rink <br />improvements. <br /> <br />Trail Naming <br />Director Bernstein mentioned that there is no new update regarding the possible <br />naming of tails of veterans. <br /> <br />Aquatic Park update <br />Director Bernstein informed the NRRC of the copping stone issues that the pool is <br />experiencing. Bernstein mentioned the he has retained an engineering firm to <br />investigate why the pool is experiencing this issue. Bernstein said the results <br />should be in soon and he will share the information with the NRRC. <br /> <br />.' <br /> <br />Parks Update <br />,"__' ..Jgte.r:iII1 Superintendent Smith informed the NRRC what projects the Parks <br />. . ......,...M~1I1't~~~C'eO'St~tl'is2~orkingon~c.. NKKCmembeFv"ietil'menllonecCthaTthe'Lity'" <br />currently has 30 parks. Director Bernstein mentioned that the City will have an <br />additional two parks next summer. Interim Superintendent Smith said the City <br />has approximately 265 acres of park turf. <br /> <br />Rain Gardens <br />Interim Superintendent Smith informed the NRRC what and how rain gardens are <br />utilized to control storm water run off. Director Bernstein Passed out information <br />regarding rain water gardens. Member Vieth mentioned other communities that <br />are very active with establishing rain water gardens. Member Popp mentioned <br />HEP (Hastings environmental Protectors) would be willing to work with the <br />NRRC to inform Hastings residents about the benefits of rain water gardens and <br />storm water runoff. The NRRC asked Director Bernstein and Interim <br />Superintendent Smith to work on a workshop to inform the public about rain <br />water gardens. Member Vieth who is also a member of HEP discussed some <br />possible workshop dates. A more definite date for the workshop will be discussed <br />at the NRRC December meeting. <br /> <br />C') <br />
