VI-4
MEMORANDUM
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Dave Osberg, City Administrator
DATE: September 15, 2000
SUBJECT: MCMA Senior Executive Institute
RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION
It is recommended that the City Council take action authorizing the participation
of the City Administrator in the Minnesota City/County Management Association
(MCMA) Senior Executive Institute through Hamline University (not including the
optional program in June, 2001)
BACKROUND
Throughout the last 12-16 months I have served on a Committee of members
from MCMA working to create a program for more advanced City and County
Managers. The MCMA solicited proposals from various academic institutions,
and interviewed several of them, before settling on Hamline University. Attached
is a copy of two cover letters introducing the program, along with a cover of the
curriculum. You will note that the program is different than that which might be
offered through the more traditional training institutions, as it is meant to be more
specific to City/County Management. The optional program in June, 2001 would
not be included in this City Council action.
David Osberg
City Adminy6trator
