Planning Cornmlssion Minutes <br />June Z~th, k976 <br /> <br />The Peavey Company submitted an application for <br />a variance from the City's front yard setback <br />requirement in an I-1 zoning district. The zoning <br />ordinance requires a 50 foot setback and the plans <br />submitted by Peavey indicated a setback of 1 foot <br />5-1/Z inches at one point and 7 feet 4 inches at another <br />portion of the proposed addition to the buiktlng. The <br />new construction wkllnot be any'closer to the right- <br />of-way th~ the existing buildings. The planning <br />Director also indicated that the City should be <br />reviewing zoning requirements for industry in the developed <br />part of town. Standards that are currently being <br />applied to the Peavey property are the same as those <br />that would apply to development in the ]~dustrial Park. <br /> <br />VARIANCE - PEAVEY <br />COMPANY ~ Z005 <br />VERMILLION STREET <br /> <br />Mr. Merlin Anderson, Manager of the Peavey Mill, <br />indicated that the project is scheduled to take 3 to 4 years <br />to complete, and will expand the amount of space that they <br />presently have. However, some of the existing problems, <br />such as appearance of the building and exzsting trafficproblems <br />will be eliminated with the new construction. Mr. Anderson <br />indicated that a t the present time Peavey will have a maximum <br />of llZ people on one shift. <br /> <br />Chairman Glennie referred this item to the Fischer Committee. <br /> <br />The Pl=uuing Director reviewed with the ~Planning <br />C ommission the priorities regarding planning <br />projects and our current inability to accomplish those <br />§oals.within a reasonable time framework. <br /> Commissioner Fischer indicated that his Committee <br /> recommended that the best way of accomplishing the <br /> stated goals of the Con/mission was ~o re-define the <br /> duties of Mr. Sirnrnons, who is currently the Administrative <br /> Assistant. The Committee felt that Mr. Simmons~ <br /> position shoukl be re-defined so that he would be the <br /> new zoning enforcement officer/building inspector and <br /> that his salary would be paid for by usingsurplus <br /> funds from fees that are currently paid on building <br /> permits, and attempting to obtain a grant from the <br /> m6ney which will be available for commUnities to do <br /> planning. Commissioner Fischer indicated a second <br /> choiaewould be to hire a zoning enforcement officer/ <br /> building inspector with CETA funds if they are available. <br /> <br />IMPLEMENTING PLANNING <br />DEPARTMENT GOALS AND <br />OBJECTIVES FOR THE <br />YEAR 1976-1977 , <br /> <br />Moved by Commissioner Fischer, seconded by <br />Commissioner LAnds to recommend to the Council <br />that Mr. Simmons position be re-defined as outlined <br />in the Committee report, or as a second choixe that <br /> <br /> <br />
