HELD IVIONDAY~ 3'ULY 27° 1970, AT 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: Petersen, Fischer~ Fluegel, Sieckert0 Moen, <br /> <br />Also present: <br /> <br />City Engineer Davidson, Lew Jaquis and Xavier <br />Kaiser <br /> <br />Minutes of the ~ruly 13. 1970~ meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />Fischer: The Mayor has appointed Fischer and Hallber~ to serve on the <br />Vermillion River. Committee and has asked that these two individuals select <br />two persons from the Planning Commission, and four or five representatives <br />from the City to work on the project. Fischer requested Sieckert and Moen <br />to serve and it was agreed that they would. These persons will meet and <br />select four or five citizen members. <br /> <br />Fischer: On'August 4~ 1970, at the Library at 8:30 P.M. there will bca <br />meeting with the school board representatives to discuss the Sontag plat <br />and the Pine Street traffic proble'm. <br /> <br />Xavier Kaiser: Mr. Kaiser exhibited a blue print of the proposed motel on <br />hfs property and County Road 48. lie stated that he owns approximately 6 <br />acres between County Road 48 and the River, from his building site to the <br />highway 51 bridge. The proposed motel site is on approximately 2 acres where <br />his buildings are now located, lie stated that he would have to put in up to 18 <br />inches of fill on the westerly end. He proposes 2.8 units, two floors. Approxi- <br />mate cost $I08~ 000.00. Air conditioned. One and one-half parking spots per <br />unit. The question was raised on the effect of this development on the <br />Vermillion River proposals under consideration. Mr. Al Sieben, Contrac- <br />tor, has drawn the plans, He stated that the plans meet AAA and Western <br />Motel specifications. Kaisers would run the facility themselveS. He would <br />terminate his auto parts business. Mr. Kaiser is now working for Soiberg <br />Construction full time doing repair work. Mr, Kaiser stated that this loca- <br />tion would not affect the proposed Vermillion River change, but it would <br />conflict with access to the area if there is a beautification program under- <br />taken. Davidson stated that the only area excluded from the corps of <br />engineers proposed acquisition amounts to . 42- acres. Mr. Kaiser stated <br />that the motel would be on this . 42 acre tract. There is some question whether <br />o 42. acres or o B5 acres as on the tax statement. Davidson further stated that <br />the City appraiser had set the values as follows: Land - $9, 000.00; Structures- <br />$6~ 000.00, and relocation costs - SB, 000o 00. Kaiser stated that the City <br />appraisers said that it was all flood plain and accordingly his appraisal was <br />low. Kaiser stated that his.appraiser sets the value at $32.~ 000.00 for <br />400 foot frontage~ based on a front-footage appraisal procedure. Mr. Kaiser <br />stated that he would be glad to meet with a committee of the commission, <br /> <br /> <br />
