Mike McMenomy Non-Emergency: ..................................... 651-480-2300 Emergency: ...............................................911 The Hastings Police Department is in the process of accepting applications for Hastings ~ residents who are interested in working with the Hastings Police Department and serving the : os;: City of Hastings by becoming a member of the Hastings Police Reserve organization. ~~ Os;: ~ Members of the police reserve unit volunteer hours to assist the Police Department at various :J tIl City functions and events such as Rivertown Days, Hastings High School football and hockey ~ ~ games, the Gobble Gait Run, and many other community events. Members of the reserve 0= program can also participate in "ride-alongs" with Hastings police officers during their regular U cl: work shifts. The Police Department provides training to reserve members in various aspects of L :J ~ the law enforcement profession. ~~ ~ E If you are interested in becoming a member of the Police Reserve Unit, please stop by the [: 8 Police Department during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.--4:30 p.m.) and ~ ~ obtain an police reserve application. City Ordinance Section 8.09, Subdivision 2 concerning Declaration of an Emergency, states that "snow emergency conditions will exist and will automatically go into effect whenever the snowfall is measured at two or more inches of snow." The amount of snowfall to determine a snow emergency is measured in the City of Hastings. I The City's Street Department supervisory personnel will declare a snow emergency and will then notify the Hastings Police Department. Following a declaration of a snow emergency, the City will then notify local news media and request their assistance in giving notice to the community and its motorists. All vehicles must be removed from City streets within two hours after a snow emergency has been declared and gone into effect. Cable Channel 12 or KDWA 1460 AM should have information regarding a snow emergency. During a snow emergency, it is unlawful to park or leave standing, any vehicle upon any street until the street has been cleared of snow to its full width on both sides of the street or until such time as the emergency conditions have been remedied. If a vehicle has been left on the street after the snow emergency has been declared, it may be subject to being ticketed and also towed to allow City Street Department personnel the ability to remove the snow. It is the vehicle owners responsibility to pay the towing/storage cost to get a vehicle out of the impound lot . if it has been towed.
